Private Consulting
Art students, emerging artists, and working artists alike receive implicit and explicit messages that it’s not OK to ask for help or make any indication that we aren’t 100% certain about where we are going and how we are going to get there. Continuous Project is an act of resistance to the pervasive, persistent, disempowering ideas that we’re not supposed to need help, we’re not allowed to ask for what we want and need, or that it’s uncool or unprofessional to talk to each other about how things work and to want a sustainable practice and life.
At the heart of this work is Private Consulting. In these 1- or 2-hour meetings, we assess your current circumstances, explore your professional history (as well as relevant intersections with your personal life), and dream about your future. You will receive feedback, insight, and advice drawn from Corrina’s 25-year career working as an artist, writer, curator, gallery director, educator, and community organizer. Our conversations are grounded in empathy and nonjudgment so that we can find your unique way to fulfillment and sustainability for your work and your life. The conversation varies, depending on each client’s questions, circumstances, and learning style. We may outline practical tools to help build and maintain an infrastructure for your work; we might discuss how to find new opportunities for your work or strategic approaches to working with professional partners; or we could investigate your mindset around your work and its public-facing aspects—or all of the above.
What is said in your meetings is confidential, as is the fact of your being a client. This confidence is essential to supporting the vulnerability that often accompanies the work: It’s not easy to ask for help, and it’s not always easy to hear possible solutions, let alone implement the suggestions that arise in our work. The affirmative environment of Private Consulting contains and supports this vulnerability along the way.
Presumably, you found Continuous Project because you have a desire for something more or something different in your work, and you are seeking a transformation in your work and maybe in yourself. Corrina’s role is to help you define your goals and support you in reaching them. The outcome of the work depends in large part on your own commitment to and effort in the process, as well as your reflection on how the application of what is discussed in meetings is affecting your work and life. Continuous Project exists to help you envision and enact your work within an ecosystem, empowering you in your work and in your professional relationships.
